Petra Haffter is an award winning Filmmaker based in Los Angeles and president of 7 Miles Media. Her most recent TV work was the primetime non-fiction TV series "IN SEARCH OF AMERICA". Currently she is filming "THE COLORS OF THE DESERT" a five part series for ARTE. Her travels will take her to Bolivia, the Colorado Plateau, Mojave Desert, Egypt and Jordan.
She is also developing ROCKETVILLE, a documentary about space travel, and "SAFE HAVEN," a thriller based on the novel from Fran Yarif.

Born and raised in Germany Petra studied Communication, Drama and Political Science at the Freie University in Berlin. She began her career as an Independent Producer of Movies for Children. (BANANA PAUL & THE FIDGIN.) She continued with European Co-productions (KARNABAL, BRIDGE OF WARSAW and RED KISS) Her movies garnered film and art awards. "RED KISS" won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. She began her career as an Independent Producer of two German children films, "BANANA PAUL" and "THE FIDGIN", and of several European Co-Productions such as "KARNABAL" and "THE BRIDGE OF WARSAW" with Spain and "RED KISS" with France. "KARNABAL" garnered several film and art awards. "RED KISS" won the Silver Bear at the 1986 Berlin Film Festival.

Her feature film "A DEMON IN MY VIEW", based on the novel by renowned English writer RUTH RENDELL and starring ANTHONY PERKINS, was screened at numerous festivals and distributed by VIDMARK in the United States. At the 1992 International Fantastic Adventure Film Festival in Yubari, Japan, with ROBERT WISE serving as Jury President, the film received the SPECIAL JURY PRIZE. In Cattolica, Italy, cast member UWE BOHM picked up the “Best Supporting Actor, award.
In 2004 she received an award for her outstanding film "TRACKING AGATHA," where she followed in the footprints of Agatha Christie from London to Iraq. The documentary (aka: Verwehte Spuren - Auf der Suche nach Agatha Christie), is the first HD/DVD ever released in Europe.

In 2003 she received a 'Certificate of Appreciation' from the City of Los Angeles for her documentary about the city.

"CRASHKIDS", a road movie about a group of young outlaws, was one of the highest rated European TV Films for young audiences.

Petra Haffter received critical acclaim for her erotic thriller "THE KISS OF THE TIGER", which was also shown at several festivals.

In her personal and artistic short film "PER PEDES - Confessions of a Shoe Fetishist" , she reveals her secret passion for shoes.

Specializing in Suspense and Action, Petra Haffter directed several M.O.W.s for European Television (such as "Tatort") and worked with German stars such as Til Schweiger, Goetz George, Barbara Rudnik, Hannelore Elsner and Anna Thalbach.

Many of her films are based on her own screenplays.  "ALLEY CAT" – the nine lives of Valeska Gert awarded script grant from the German Federal Film Board (FFA) and is now ready for production.

Petra currently heads the Documentary Film Department at New York Film Academy - Universal. She has also taught at other film schools, including the USC Film School and the Berlin Film School (dffb).

In addition to her film work she writes radio plays and articles for magazines, anthologies and newspapers like DIE ZEIT, Berliner Morgenpost, TIP, Tagespiegel.

Petra Haffter has directed more than 60 films, documentaries, music videos and stage plays.  She has served as a member of Film and Theatre Juries and Committees for Film Funding, predominantly in Germany.
